Today was a fairly good day… well at least it started great and ended great!!
I began my day by seeing a patient! The patient I saw today was coming in for his second appointment… he was my very first patient last Monday and he came again today to continue on with his care! He is such a great, sweet patient! I wish I could express my gratitude for my patients because they put up with a lot of waiting around and LONG appointments!! I enjoy the time I get to visit with my patients and get to know them! During my morning I was reminded about why I want to be a dental hygienist and why I want to serve people in this capacity… I can get to know my patients and build wonderful relationships with them. I can now say, that this difficult program is becoming more and more worth the agony and pain and depression and stress and… need I say more?
I can honestly say that I have some of the most amazing patients, while I have only met 1 of them in person so far, I have talked to about 5 of them on the phone and they are just great people. When they come in for their appointments, they are in for 3 hours of waiting and holding their mouths open… but more waiting than anything. Some patients will need to return 2 or 3 times after their initial appointment to get their care finished up. My patient is absolutely awesome. He understands that we are learning and that it might take a while to get his work done, but he is so patient and understanding. A majority of my patients have shown amazing flexibility to fit into my schedule. I am excited to continue seeing patients in clinic and getting to know them more. Tomorrow and Wednesday I will meet two new patients.
I am anxious to get this semester finished because I want to get this experience under my belt so I can continue learning and building relationships. I have been blessed with such an amazing opportunity and I am SO excited to be able to use this time to the best of my ability and, hopefully, allow someone else to be blessed through me!!!
I had a competency today at the end of the day on impressions. I was very excited that I got my both of my impressions on the first try and got a 100%! I was shocked seeing as I have only taken 2 impressions in the past year and a half!
As you can see, today was a much needed breath of fresh air!
I hope to blog in a few days and tell you about my past weekend… I got to go on a date!! ;)
Grant and I are also praying about a possible opportunity for our summer “vacation!” If you are looking to put someone on your prayer list… you could add that for me! ;)
One last thing… Happy Birthday to my sister-in-law, Lindsey! :)
